Course Description
In 16 weeks, you will learn the skills needed to pass the AAPC Certified Professional Coder (CPC) certification exam and start a career as a medical coder. The Medical Coding Bootcamp, offered by the Office of Professional and Continuing Studies at Loyola University New Orleans, in partnership with AAPC, is a 100% online bootcamp providing the principles of medical coding related to the three main code books: CPT®, ICD-10-CM Code Set and HCPCS Level II. Throughout the bootcamp, students will navigate the curriculum and engage in experiential learning modules. This program assures a broad knowledge in reviewing and assigning the correct procedure and diagnosis codes for professional services. and it is recommended for anyone preparing for a career in medical coding for a physician’s office or hospital.
The Medical Coding Certification Online Asynchronous program has a recurring monthly start date on the 20th of each month. This option offers learners to schedule 3 optional 1:1 meetings with the instructor.
Upon completion of the course, students will earn a Certificate of Completion and 19.2 CEUs from Loyola University New Orleans, a respected credential that demonstrates your commitment to professional growth. Students will be prepared with the knowledge and skills needed to sit for the AAPC Certified Professional Coder (CPC®) exam—the industry standard for validating coding expertise and professional excellence. While the CPC® certification is awarded only upon passing the AAPC exam, Loyola’s program is designed to give you the comprehensive preparation and confidence to pursue certification successfully.

Learner Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, learners will be able to:
- Proficiency in assigning appropriate CPT®, ICD-10-CM, and HCPCS Level II codes to medical records to ensure accurate reimbursement.
- Ability to read and abstract information from operative reports, physician notes, and lab results.
- Deep understanding of Evaluation and Management coding guidelines for MDM (medical decision making) and time.
- Understanding of HIPAA, fraud and abuse regulations, and documentation requirements to ensure compliant coding.
- Fluent understanding of medical terminology, anatomy, and pathophysiology to accurately interpret documentation.
- Correct application of modifiers to indicate special circumstances.
- Understanding the impact of coding on reimbursement, including managing claim denials.
- Familiarity with digital tools like AAPC’s Codify and EMR systems.
